Company and Job title:
The Abbey School, Head of Junior French

Sector:
Business

Background:
Degree in French from the University of East Anglia

Language skills:
Fluent in French, basic knowledge of Spanish

How would you describe your job?
I teach general subjects at Primary level and have responsibility for Junior French.

What do enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy teaching French to a wide age range (4 to 13) and all abilities. I teach a number of bilingual children who need a different teaching approach and some EAL children who are learning English as well as French! I also enjoy having a form group.

What other skills and qualities do you need?
Patience is essential! You also need to be able to recognise and teach to each child's learning style so that they can reach their full potential and also be motivated to learn. Organisation is important both in the classroom and in terms of administration. Good subject knowledge is essential so the lessons can run smoothly.

What's a typical day for you?
I am normally at school at around 7.30am to make sure everything is set up for the day. The children come in at 8.30 and sometimes a parent will come to see me before school. I teach eight 45 minute lessons both to my form group and across the Junior and Senior school. School finishes at 3.45pm and after school I have time to do my marking and any planning for the week.
