How would you describe your job?
Busy! There are always people looking for jobs and companies looking for new employees so it does get hectic, but the job is also really varied which is great.

How do your language skills help you do your job?
My German ability means it’s easy for me to speak to German job seekers and test the language skills of people applying for positions that require German skills. Also my knowledge of the language means I have the cultural awareness to appreciate different outlooks and understand how different people operate.

What do enjoy most about your job?
I like that I have contact with a wide range of different people on a daily basis and that I’m able to help them meet their needs.

What other skills and qualities do you need?
To be a good recruiter you need to be able to multi-task, be organised and proactive. Strong communication skills are also vital.

What's a typical day for you?
Recruitment is all about putting people into jobs so I spend around half the day calling job seekers, whether it’s someone looking for work or someone we have placed – we deal with the whole recruitment cycle. Then it’s ringing our client organisations to discuss their requirements for jobs they have open. In between these calls I may be looking at CVs, interviewing candidates or meeting with colleagues to discuss what work we have on.

What's the best thing about knowing another language?
Knowing another language enables you to communicate with so many more people for more rewarding opportunities. It also expands your horizons and gives you an insight into other cultures.

How do you use your languages socially?
I use my languages socially in language groups and of course also when in Germany.
