Whether you’re breeding race horses or
managing golf courses in the Mediterranean, being able to work in
an international context can be a vital addition to your skills
portfolio in the land and environmental sector. With sustainable
development so high on political and moral agendas, the importance
of land resource has never been greater. Like many others,
land-based industries are feeling the impact of global pressures –
both economic and environmental - which means language skills are
becoming increasingly important. They help land-based businesses
stay one step ahead of the competition in the global market place,
allowing them to access new approaches and innovation from
overseas, and develop an understanding of the industry from a
broader perspective.
And if you fancy moving further afield,
land-based skills are highly applicable overseas as well as in the
UK, whether in developing countries, where pressures on land use
are even more acute than in the UK, or in other developed countries
where you can learn from others and develop your practice. For
those who want to run their own businesses abroad, whether farming
in Sweden or running a riding school in Bulgaria, a little language
– and the capacity to learn more - can make a lot of
difference.
