There are over 300 different languages spoken in the UK – and English is very often not the mother tongue. If we want to be able to provide our local communities with the support and guidance they need, we need to employ people at local government level with the language skills to communicate with people from all backgrounds in their own language – and have an understanding of the many cultures that make up our society.
