The first thing you need to do if you want to become a teacher, is  achieve your qualified teacher status (QTS).This will enable you to teach across state-maintained schools across England and Wales, and almost always means completing a programme of initial teacher training (ITT). Most teacher training routes are for people who already have a university degree, but it is also possible to train as a teacher alongside studying for a degree in another subject.

The Graduate Teacher Training Registry (GTTR) handles applications to most teacher training courses in England and Wales, and produces a handbook to assist with selection.
