Primary teaching with a languages specialism

Language learning will become a statutory part of the curriculum for all primary pupils from 2011. This means that there is a need for primary trained teachers who can offer a language, as well as teaching assistants and higher level teaching assistants.

If you are interested in teaching a foreign language at primary level, you can undertake primary initial teacher training with an additional specialism in French, Spanish, German or Italian. These courses aim to equip trainee teachers with the skills and knowledge they need to teach a language within the primary curriculum.

You can find more information on the TDA website and the Primary Languages website.
