Degree (or equivalent) plus postgraduate training
Having a degree is an advantage but not having
one does not automatically exclude you from undertaking specialist
training; your experience may be deemed by the course provider
(e.g. university) or awarding body to be equivalent to a
degree.
If your degree is from a university outside of
the UK, it may still allow you entry onto a postgraduate course.
You should check with the course provider or awarding body.
If you are able to commit to several years’
study, it is possible to study for a degree which includes
components of translation and/or interpreting. This route is not
recommended if you already have high levels of linguistic ability
and relevant experience. If this is the case, a postgraduate
qualification is recommended (see section below on postgraduate
training and qualifications).
