Ian Mullen, chief executive of the British Bankers’ Association, said: “Foreign language skills are key for financial services. Eighty per cent of regulations governing the UK financial industry originate from Brussels. A third of the world’s foreign exchange takes place in London. We need a workforce with expanding language skills.”
It is estimated that around 10-15% of jobs with languages are in the finance sector, and this has seen much growth in recent years.
