There is a huge competitive advantage in being able to communicate with customers, suppliers or partners in their own language and UK businesses are becoming increasingly aware of the need to move beyond English. Surveys of exporting and multinational businesses have found that the ones which take languages the most seriously are also the ones which are the most successful: valuing language skills seems to go hand in hand with good business practice.

 

Finance, banking and insurance are themselves international industries and success in world markets relies on highly skilled people able to conduct business in foreign countries or with overseas companies and clients.
