Land-based and environmental

The land-based sector is undergoing a period of rapid change in the UK and worldwide. Its 17 industries all require a highly skilled workforce and the international context can be vitally important in all of them, whether it’s breeding race horses or managing golf courses. The importance of land resource has never been greater in terms of sustainable development and increasingly the land-based industries are feeling the impact of global pressures – both economic and environmental. Language skills can help land-based businesses stay one step ahead of the competition in the global market place, access new approaches and innovation from overseas, and help develop an understanding of the industry from a broader perspective. Land-based skills are highly applicable overseas as well as in the UK, whether in developing countries, where pressures on land use are even more acute than in the UK, or in other developed countries where the career conscious can learn from others and develop their practice. For those who want to run their own businesses abroad, whether farming in Sweden or running a riding school in Bulgaria, a little language – and the capacity to learn more - can make a lot of difference.
