ICT
In the early days of web-based technology, English was often claimed to be ‘the language of the internet’. However, this is no longer the case. Other languages have been growing strongly and in the five years between 2000 and 2005 the proportion of English used on the internet dropped from one half to less than one third. Chinese and Portuguese have increased their share and Russian and Spanish are becoming more important too. The web is a vitally important marketing tool in many industries and multiple language choices an increasingly common feature of corporate websites.
