What's the Big Idea? Universities Week 14-20 June 2010

What's the big idea? is a national pilot campaign that has been set up to highlight the essential role of universities in the UK and their impact on the economy, culture, society, the environment and much more.

This week (14-20 June) is ‘University Week’, which aims to highlight all the things our universities have to offer on a local and national level.  Over 100 universities and organisations will be joining in the celebrations by hosting a variety of events in areas across the country.

CILT, the National Centre for Languages, is encouraging teachers and learners across the spectrum to use some of the many resources available on Languages Work in order to join in with the campaign. The question of language skills and employability has certainly been a hot topic of late, so this could be an excellent opportunity to draw attention to the issue.

There's a great deal of information on studying languages at university on the Languages Work website. Our factsheet Mixing it up is available to download for free, and is full of interesting advice on how you can combine a language with other subjects at university.
