Welcome to the LAFTAs!
Thank you to everyone who sent in a film clip for the Languages and Film Talent Awards (LAFTAs) 2008. We received a fantastic total of 165 entries from young people across the UK, who sent in two-minute videos showing the importance of languages. There were some great ideas about why we need languages: from being lost in a foreign country, to meeting the love of your life, to being attacked by sharks, cannibals or dragons…
The LAFTAs celebrity judging panel chose eight winning clips, which were announced at the glamorous LAFTAs awards ceremony in September.
Chris Thompson and Guy Taylor won this year’s award for Best Overall Entry for their Japanese thriller Kaiju Sketch.
And the winners are...
- Kaiju Sketch by Chris Thompson, Guy Taylor and Michael Kinahan – Best overall entry
- French Oral Exam by Alisdair Cairns– Best individual entry
- Languages Animated by James Palmer – Multilingualvacancies.com People’s Vote award
- Girls by Alison Groves
