The Language Stars ceremony took place on Tuesday 6 July at the
British Film Institute in London.
The glamorous event brought together the prize giving for the
National Awards for Excellence in Language Learning and the
announcement of the winners of the LAFTAs (Language and Film Talent
Awards).

our host for the afternoon.

The LAFTA for the best clip under 16 went
to
‘A little of Spanish’ by students from
Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School.
This award was presented by Michel
Monsauret
from the French Embassy.

‘La reunión’ was the winning clip of
the best group prize: Spanish presented by Nuria Guzmán, Deputy
Director of the Spanish Tourist Office. This clip was produced by
students from Richard Hale School.

The best group prize: German, presented by Karl
Pfeiffer from the Goethe Institut, went to
‘German – the new language of love’ by students
from Gosforth High School.
|

Mark Reid from the BFI presented
the award for the LAFTAs People’s Vote...and the people chose ‘The
Colour of Language’ by students from Haydon School as the
winner.

The National Award for Excellence in
community languages was presented by
Professor Hutt from the School of Oriental and
African Studies (SOAS). The bronze award winner
is Mansimran Singh and the silver award winners are Abrar Aquil and
Karishma Kumar.

The winner of the gold prize
in the community languages category is Archi Sharma.
|
|

The National Award for Excellence in peer teaching
was presented by Anne Feltham.
Rosie Waspe is the bronze prize winner and Liam Bogues is the
silver prize winner.

Caroline Strong, Teacher of MFL,
received the gold award for peer teaching on behalf of her student
Emma O’Nien, who was not able to receive the award in
person.

Chris Hughes, Head of Language Career
Development at GCHQ presented the National Award for Excellence in
work-related language learning.
National Award for Excellence in
work-related language learning - the winner of the bronze award is
Shaquille Joel and Lola Olutola receives the silver prize.

Stephanie Kemp is the gold prize
winner of the National Award for Excellence in work-related
language learning.
|
|

The winners of the National Award for Excellence in Intermediate
Language Learning were announced by Kathryn Board, CEO, CILT, the
National Centre for Languages.
Two silver awards were presented to Luke White and Jessica
Schofield-Wood.

The winner of the gold prize
for the National Award for Excellence in Intermediate Language
Learning is Kat Bird.

Alice Gibbs receives the National Award for
Excellence in ab initio language learning.
|

Marva de la Coudray, Head of Widening
Participation at SOAS, presented the Awards for Excellence in
Advanced Language Learning. Rachel Ahlquist is the bronze prize
winner.

Chloe Richardson is a gold prize winner in the
advanced language learning category. Molly Cox is also a gold prize
winner in this category.
|

Thomas Wood receives a special award for outstanding commitment to
language learning. |

Jenny Johnson from Cactus Language Training
presented the LAFTA for the best clip over 16. Students from
Wolsingham School and Community College won this category with
their clip ‘Serpientes en el Autobus’.

Double Olympic silver medallist and three-time world champion
rower, Frances Houghton, presented the prize for the best clip in
the LAFTAs London 2012 category.
|
|

And the winning clip in the London 2012 category is ‘Olympic
Qualifiers’ from pupils at Bishop Challoner Catholic College.

‘Bacon Butty’ from students
at the University of Cambridge, is the winning clip in the World of
Languages category.
This prize was presented by
Henriette Harnisch, Associate Director for Education Partnerships
at the University of Wolverhampton and Director of Language
Networks for Excellence.
