Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS)
With the support of Graduate Prospects, AGCAS publish ‘Using Languages’ which is available at every careers advisory service in the UK and is endorsed by Languages Work. AGCAS also produces a factsheet called ‘Your degree in foreign languages … what next?’.

Gap year

It is more popular than ever to take a gap year out before going to university – many higher education institutions encourage it, as the experience can be very rewarding and can give the individual a taste of the independence they will need to get through university. Year abroad during a degree programme

Languages and other degrees allow students to spend a year in a country where the target language is spoken. This is very often facilitated through the Socrates-Erasmus programme.

The Virtual Exchange programme is provides a wide range of information for students considering this option.

The Subject Centre for Language, Linguistics and Area Studies also provides advice on the year abroad.

See Work experience and time abroad for more information on working and learning overseas.
